In-home newborn sessions

Babies, in all their squishy, delicious, newborn gorgeousness. These early days can be hard; sleep deprivation, how much you’re needed, the amount of nappies you have to change! It’s also a beautiful, vulnerable, and special time.

My newborn sessions happen through a relaxed session in your own home, where everyone is most comfortable. I go with the flow and work around what bub (and mum and dad!) are most happy with. These sessions are candid and natural.

Some families worry that their homes aren’t picture perfect, but on the contrary, I don’t think there’s a better place to have your session!

One of the primary advantages of choosing an in-home newborn photography session is the comfort it provides. Your home is a familiar and cosy environment, creating a relaxed setting for both you and your precious little one. The post-partum period should be focused on rest and bonding with your new baby. An in-home session means you can focus on creating genuine, heart warming moments right in the heart of your home, prioritising the all important rest needed in these early days.

My in-home sessions allow for a personalised and authentic touch to your photographs. I will capture all the sentimental items in your home, such as nursery details, family heirlooms, or beloved pets. These personalised touches add layers to your photos, making them not just beautiful images but also timeless memories that uniquely represent your family.

My newborn sessions last anywhere between 1-3 hours, but not all of this is shooting time! This timeframe provides plenty of flexibility needed to accommodate your little ones feeding and sleeping patterns. In the comfort of your own home, you can feed, settle, and change your baby as needed. It also means that your older kids can sneak off once their photos are done, and you don’t need to worry about them in an unfamiliar place.

Speaking of siblings! In-home sessions make it easy to include older siblings, who will most likely feel more at ease in their own space. I like to get sibling shots right at the start, before they lose interest, and then they can take themselves off to do their own thing.

Unlike the time constraints often associated with studio sessions, in-home photography provides a more relaxed and unhurried experience. This allows me time to to capture those candid, in-between moments that showcase the genuine love and joy within your family. There’ll be time to stop for a cup of tea or a snack, or take any other breaks as needed.

My in-home sessions lean towards a lifestyle photography style, capturing the real and raw moments of your family life. There’ll be plenty of posed, snuggly, cuddly shots, but also plenty of you feeding bub and snuggling on the couch. These authentic moments are frozen in time, telling the story of your family's journey in these precious early days.

And lastly, if you’re worried that your house isn’t picture perfect, don’t be! My newborn sessions are very intimate, snuggly, and close up! The focus is on your growing family. I’ve also been known to do some rearranging of furniture during sessions; to get everything just right. I also bring along additional lighting of my own if your house isn’t blessed with natural light.
